Welcome to the Appalachian Area on Aging website! Area Agencies on Aging were created under the Older Americans Act of 1965. The Appalachian Area Agency on Aging (AAAOA) is one of four Area Agencies on Aging in West Virginia funded by the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services to administer federal and state funds for senior programs. The AAAA funds aging programs for seniors in thirteen counties in Southeastern West Virginia. This region is known as Region IV and includes the counties shown to the right.

The AAAOA contracts with county aging programs to provide nutrition programs, transportation, and other social services. Our agency also provides technical assistance and support to county service providers and reviews administration of funds. Additional responsibilities include advocating on behalf of older persons, identifying the needs of the elderly and working to create avenues to enable the elderly to maintain their independence and dignity.

The AAAOA also operates Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC's) in Princeton, WV and Fairmont, WV. The Fairmont office covers 11 counties in Northern WV or Region I which include: Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Pleasants, Ritchie, Tyler, Wirt, and Wood. The Princeton office covers the 13 counties of Region IV which include: Braxton, Clay, Fayette, Greenbrier, McDowell, Mercer, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Raleigh, Summers, Webster, and Wyoming.
